What classes do I need for my SGL?

Two answers, depending on whether your card is unarmed or armed.

Unarmed Security Guard License

• 8-Hour Pre-Assignment (one time, lifetime)
• 16-Hour On-the-Job Training (one time, within 90 days of pre-assignment)
• Two 8-Hour Annual In-Service courses within your current 2-year period

Armed Security Guard License

Same three as above, plus:

• 47-Hour Firearms Pre-Assignment (one time, lifetime)
• Two 8-Hour Annual Firearms within your current 2-year period

What "current 2-year period" means

NY DOS issues registrations on a 2-year cycle. Your current period runs from two years before your expiration date to your expiration date. Classes taken before that window do not count toward this renewal.
